However, it has come to our attention that connecting to other worlds is sometimes an issue in Minecraft. Either the user is unable to connect to the world a single time or the issue repeats consecutively. In this article, we will go through all the reasons as to why this issue occurs and also the workarounds involved to fix the problem.

What causes the Error 'Unable to Connect to World' in Minecraft?

After receiving numerous reports from users, we came to the conclusion that this issue occurred due to several different reasons ranging from issues in the network to bad configurations in Minecraft itself. Here are some of the reasons as to why you might experience this problem:

• Firewall: Windows Firewall is notorious for irrelevantly blocking several programs and services on Windows. If your Firewall is malfunctioning, the game will be unable to connect to the servers and hence load the world.
• False Positive: Several Antivirus software is known to flag verified applications as a threat. This might be the case with Minecraft on your computer.
• Issue in Friend list: We saw behavior in the game where users experienced issues with their friend list. It seemed that it was corrupt and they were able to connect stranger's worlds but not to their friend's. Here, you can re-add your friend.
• Permissions: Xbox platforms (including the Xbox application on Windows) has a feature to disable the connection with other multiplayer. If this is enabled, you will not be able to connect to the world.
• Issues with ISP: There are also several cases where there is an issue with your ISP. We can work around this by using a VPN when connecting to another world.
• Corrupt Microsoft Account: Even though this is very rare, it is possible that your Microsoft account's configurations on your computer are corrupt. This will cause your game not to connect to the servers because of the very basic step of Account authentication fails.
• Internet Explorer: It may already be known to Advanced Windows users that Internet Explorer's settings are reflected onto other applications and game running in Windows. If these settings are causing issues, the game will not be able to connect.

Before you start with the solutions, make sure that you have an active internet connection on your computer and are logged in as an administrator. Also, follow the solutions from the top and work your way down as they are ordered according to difficulty and effectiveness. Make sure you also remember your credentials as we will be entering them again and again.

Solution 1: Re-adding your Friend

Before we start with the technical solutions involved to fix the problem, we will first try performing in-game workarounds. The first one which tops our list is corruption in the friend list. Minecraft's friend-list is saved against your account and is not saved locally; instead, it is fetched from the servers. If there is any issue or corruption in the friend-list, you will not be able to connect to your friend's world. Friends have different mechanisms for chat and worlds as compared to strangers in the game. If there is an issue in the friend list, the game-engine will in turn malfunction and cause issues like the one under discussion.

To remove a friend from your Friend's list, you need to know the username. After checking the username, type the following command and press Enter:

After you have removed the friend, you can invite the friend again either using the Xbox application on Windows or through the game itself.

Note: Before you try this technique, you should try visiting other stranger's worlds. If you can, it means there is a problem with your friend-list and you can proceed.

Solution 2: Enabling Multiplayer

Most of the users who experienced the issue of not being able to connect to Worlds were using the Windows version of Minecraft. When you install Minecraft using Microsoft's store, all the privacy and multiplayer settings are controlled by your Xbox account (an alias of Microsoft's account). There is an option on your Xbox account where you have the option to disable/enable the joining of multiplayer games. If this option is turned off, you will experience issues and will not be able to connect to any world whatsoever because the permissions aren't there. In this solution, we will navigate to your account settings in your Xbox account and fix the permissions.

1. Open your web browser and navigate to the official Xbox website. Sign in using your credentials.
2. Now, click on the tab of Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety. Make sure that the option of You can join multiplayer games is Allowed.

3. Save changes and exit. Restart your computer and log into Minecraft again. Check if the issue is resolved.

Solution 3: Updating Windows and Minecraft to the Latest Build

Before we try other solutions, it is vital that you update Windows and Minecraft to the latest versions. According to Microsoft developers, this was an issue prevalent on many versions of Windows and potential fixes were released for both Windows and Minecraft. In this solution, we will navigate to your Windows and Microsoft Store settings and make sure both software is updated to the latest build.

1. Press Windows + S, type "update" in the dialogue box and open the Settings which return in the results.
2. Once in the Update settings, click on the button of Check for updates.

3. Now, Windows will start checking for any potential updates. If any are found, they will be installed automatically. If prompted, make sure that you restart your computer as well.

Now that we have installed the latest updates for Windows, we will move on and install the updates for Minecraft. Here, we have assumed that you have downloaded the game from Microsoft Store.

1. Press Windows + S, type "store" in the dialogue box and open the entry of Microsoft Store from the results.
2. Once the store is opened, click on the three dots present at the top-right side of the window near your profile image and click Downloads and Updates.
3. Now, click on the button of Get updates so all the updates begin to download automatically on your computer. If there is an update for Minecraft, it will be downloaded.

4. Once Minecraft is updated, restart your computer and launch the game. Check if the sound issue is solved.

Solution 4: Disabling Windows Firewall

All your traffic gets filtered through the Windows Firewall through which it is passed and several checks are performed. The Firewall is responsible for monitoring your internet activity. However, despite the usefulness of the application, the Firewall is notorious for wrongly filtering legitimate data and filtering it. Here, what you can do is disable the Firewall and carry out a number of different other steps as listed below:

• If you have any other packet analyzer or game booster active, make sure that you disable it as well. These game/internet boosting applications are also known to cause hindrance to your internet traffic.

After you make the changes, make sure that you restart your computer completely before proceeding. Also, try to launch Minecraft as an administrator by right-clicking it and select Run as administrator to avoid any other inconveniences.

Solution 5: Using a VPN

Another thing to try before we jump to alternatives is using a VPN on your computer. There might be a case where the game is banned or its traffic is restricted by ISPs which might cause hindrance in the network traffic. When you use a VPN, you can spoof your ISP and access the game by faking your location to be in some other country. This will help bypass all the barriers and fix the issue of the game is blocked by your ISP.

However, as always, there is a catch; you might need to download a VPN application from the internet unless you have your own VPN access which most organizations or companies give to their employees. After you have set up your VPN, the Minecraft application might prompt you to authenticate your account again because of the change in location. Do so then check if the issue goes away and you are able to connect to your friend's world.

Solution 6: Resetting Internet Explorer Settings

Since you are using Microsoft Store's version of Minecraft, it automatically means that the application is using the internet rules/ preferences set by Windows. Windows set these preferences through Internet Explorer; a fact which may seem for several users as the explorer is close to being depreciated. In this solution, we will navigate to the internet settings and reset the Internet Explorer settings and check if the issue is resolved.

1. Press Windows + R, type "inetcpl.cpl" in the dialogue box and press Enter.
2. Once in Internet Properties, click on Advanced tab present at the top and click on Reset present underneath the heading of Reset Internet Explorer settings

3. Restart your computer after making changes and launch Minecraft again. Check if the issue is resolved.

Note: It is also highly recommended that you disable your proxy server (if active).

Solution 7: Installing Minecraft Java Edition

If all the above methods don't work, what we can do is install the Java Edition of Minecraft on your computer. There are currently two types of Minecraft's installations available on your computer i.e. one through Microsoft Store and another which is a standalone Java edition. Majority of the users reported that the Java edition worked perfectly for them. Below is the method on how to uninstall the current installation of Minecraft and install the Java version.

Before we start the installation process, press Windows + R, type "%appdata%" in the dialogue box and press Enter. Move a step back and delete the Minecraft date from the following folders:

After deleting the contents, proceed.

1. Press Windows + R, type "appwiz.cpl" in the dialogue box and press Enter.
2. Locate the Minecraft entry, right-click on it and select Uninstall.

3. After uninstalling, restart your computer. Now navigate to the official Minecraft website and download the executable to an accessible location.
4. Restart the computer after the installation and check if the issue is resolved.

Bonus: Creating a new User Account

User profiles are known to get corrupt and applications often run into errors and not responding situations like the one under discussion. Here what you can do is create a new user account and see if Minecraft works properly in it. If it does, it means that your user account was corrupt and you can continue to transfer all your data to the new account and delete the older one.

Note: It is wise to backup your entire data files to an accessible location before proceeding.

1. Open an administrator account. Type Settings in the start menu dialogue box and click on Accounts.

3. Once inside select the menu, select "Add someone else to this PC".
4. Now Windows will guide you through its wizard on how to create a new account. When the new window comes forth, click "I don't have this person's sign-in information".

5. Now select the option "Add a user without Microsoft". Windows will now prompt you to make a new Microsoft account and display a window like this.
6. Enter all the details and chose an easy password which you can remember.
7. Check thoroughly if this new local account is working properly and has all the functionalities which you require.
8. Your local account is now created. Log into the account and launch an instance of Minecraft. Check if it works properly there.

If the client works as expected, you can move on and migrate all your data.
